Custom T-Shirt design
About the project
I was tasked to create a T-shirt, yes, not just the design but also the research on materials, manufacturers and print techniques.
I made a custom T-shirt from scratch for “Focus Adventures”. First and foremost, Focus Adventures is a a photographer who shows his work with a very simple goal, to show how his own adventure to the world. From that base meaning the slogan is derived “focus on your adventure”. In the very beginning, the design was created, a modern, yet daring design was asked for “something that people would want to wear when they leave the house, no matter if it is my merch or no”. With some feedback and correction, I finally got my design approved. The front is simple and not distracting, with only the quote “focus on your adventure”, making it feel light and easy. The back however is where the main design sits: a duo of blurred/smudged “Focus” is drawn on the back, indicating that people’s focus often gets blurred or aims in the wrong direction. This duo however is interrupted by an almost rebellious, handwritten font in red: “on your adventure”, this way interrupting the lost focus and guiding the viewer back to the main idea, just like the person reading it should. Lastly, on the very bottom a line that includes the logo, “certified media” and “limited collection” was added as per the request, stylized in away to add to the design and remind the viewer that this is merch of a media creator.
Another important parameter was the T-shirt’s materials, it had to be medium density but no further information was given. After lots of research I settled that the best idea would be to mix 60-70% cotton with “Sorona”, which essentially is a very high quality and natural feeling polyester. After months of communication with a multitude of different manufacturers and countless amounts of issues: poor print quality, unsaturated colors, unsatisfactory materials and flawed fit; I finally achieved perfection. Through hard work and dedication, I’ve achieved a satisfactory result for the client, while also experimenting with things that are absolutely new to me.
